Find care
Finding the right kind of care
AyuHipHealth doesn't provide referrals or a directory. This page explains, in general terms, who typically does what — useful if you're not sure where to start, including for a parent.
Healthcare systems vary by country and city, and we don't want to imply a directory or endorsement we can't back. What we can offer is a plain explanation of the kinds of professionals commonly involved in hip mobility and joint-health care.
General practitioner / family physician
Often the first, most practical point of contact — can assess, refer, and coordinate further care.
Physiotherapist
Assesses movement and function, and builds an individualised exercise or rehabilitation plan.
Orthopaedic surgeon
Specialist in bone and joint conditions, including assessment for procedures like hip replacement.
Rheumatologist
Specialist in inflammatory and autoimmune joint conditions, relevant if a pattern suggests more than everyday stiffness.
Helping an ageing parent
Many readers are adult children helping a parent navigate this. It's commonly useful to attend appointments together when possible, keep a simple written note of symptoms and questions, and ask the treating clinician directly which professional should be seen next — rather than guessing.
See a doctor now if you have:
- Sudden severe pain
- Inability to bear weight
- Fever with joint pain
- Numbness
- Loss of bladder or bowel control
- Recent trauma
